The AI Co-Innovation Lab, located in the LATU Technology Park in Montevideo, will drive innovation in Uruguay and Latin America. The Lab is the first of its kind in the region and joins those in the United States, Germany, and China, providing Uruguayan and regional companies with a local team and a global network of experts who will co-create solutions using cutting-edge technologies. The Lab is expected to develop at least 300 projects for companies of all scales and sectors within three years.
The LATU Technology Park, where the new Lab is located, is a space that brings together companies and public and private organizations related to technology, education, entrepreneurship, research, creativity, and innovation. This ecosystem provides a conducive environment for international projection and technological project development.
The Microsoft AI Co-Innovation Lab, unique in its kind in the region, joins existing labs in the United States, Germany, and China. Its purpose is to provide Uruguayan and regional companies access to a local team and a global network of experts who will work together with organizations to co-create solutions to challenges in different value chains and society, ranging from agriculture to education.
With a national and regional vocation, this Lab will offer access to top experts and cutting-edge technology, enabling organizations, from startups to large corporations, to build, develop, prototype, and test solutions, contributing to the Uruguayan government's vision of turning the country into a hub of innovation and technology. As a partner of Microsoft in this initiative, LATU will act as a bridge to link companies and their projects with the Lab.
The Lab is expected to develop at least 300 projects within three years, covering companies of all scales and sectors. To achieve this, it will provide assistance and guidance through specialized Microsoft professionals who will collaborate with the technical teams of companies to materialize the full potential of artificial intelligence.
The inauguration of the Microsoft AI Co-Innovation Lab was attended by the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, and speeches were given by the Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining, Omar Paganini, the President of LATU, Ruperto Long, the global leader of the Microsoft AI Co-Innovation Labs, Jun Yamasaki, the General Manager of the Andean South Region of Microsoft, Jaime Galviz, and the Chief Scientist and Lab Director of Microsoft AI for Good Research Lab, Juan Lavista Ferres.
