England had declared their first innings shut at 435-8, thanks to centuries from Harry Brook (186) and Joe Root (153). New Zealand responded by scoring 388 in their first innings, with Tom Latham (101) and Devan Conway (80) shining. In their second half, England had to regroup after losing Zack Crowley (0) and Rory Burns (4) early.
